Movie Review: Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2022)

Letterboxd: 2 1/2 stars out of 5

Is it fun? Yes. Fede Alvarez horror movies are fun.
Is it good? …No.
Is it a worthy sequel? No. I appreciate Kim Henkel and John Laroquette’s involvement, and I loved the use of the original cast’s photo as a prop.

But how the hell did a grown man end up in an orphanage? He had a family. They were disturbed to high hell, and Leatherface arguably had a low IQ (see Gunnar Hansen’s acting preparation notes), but that part makes no sense, and is given no backstory/explanation. The Cook and the Hitchhiker were no older than he was, so the argument that they all died off doesn’t hold water.

Things like this, as a writer, bug me.

I did like the ending. Nice throwback to stinger endings of the 80’s.

I leave you with this:

Leatherface kills millennial gentrification investors in a party bus en masse.
