Blair Witch was legit scary, legit good. It caught a lot of flack from serious horror fans, but it stands as an important evolution in the genre, and it stands up in spite of dozens (hundreds?) of repeat hollywood versions over the years.
I saw it in a restored theater, with its original, creepy red velvet curtain walls and red velvet seats. Almost no one was in there. When it ended, and we were out in the sunshine, we just stood there for a moment, my husband turned to me and said, “I don’t want to go home yet, I feel weird.”
So we went to the coffee shop across the street and both stared off into the middle distance, not speaking, feeling chilled in the Virginia humidity.

Powerful effect!
