One of my favorites. I forgot it starts in the autumn and continues into the winter. And I should have added Snow and Bone White, both by my friend Ronald Malfi. https://bookshop.org/a/6560/9781496703880 Bad friend, bad. I blame brain fog. And of course, Misery and The Shining by Stephen King go without saying.
"Daylight broke like an arterial bleed." --Bone White, Ronald Malfi
I noticed the era you tend to gravitate toward is early 80s/late 70s adjacent. When I made it to high school, those were the books I could find in libraries. I read every horror book I could get my hands on!
I started reading horror so early! As I mentioned recently, I read Christine at 7 or 8. My parents' rule was I could read anything I want, as long as they knew about it, and as long as I came to them with my questions, instead of going to my grabass friends. Bob Ford and I were talking about this the other day; Christine meant I went to Mom and asked what pussy was, and why guys would like the smell of it. She kept to her agreement, and told me, and then had a lonnnnnng smoke on the patio. :D I read kid horror before that, like John Bellairs and some Edward Gorey.
That young hippie didn't know what she was in for, but then again I guess she did. I was a peculiar child. Wednesday Addams without the electric chair and with more cheerful clothing.
William Peter Blatty's "The Exorcist" is solid and scary.

Amazing! I think I didn't start until maybe like age 11, but there were ZERO conversations about anything inside those books with my mom!
