I attended NC State for undergrad. My friends attended Chapel Hill just down the road. My understanding is that a graduate student killed a faculty member. This was the school newspaper’s response: the editors asked for screenshots of students’ sent and received text messages during the lockdown.
I could write in depth about the important and trusting relationship between a grad student and their professors, how at Boston University classes were sometimes held in their homes, how we drank together, how they genuinely celebrated us. About how very safe I felt in grad school. Academia is a sanctuary.
I could write about this being my home, Chapel Hill being between Charlotte and NCSU, with a Pettigrew Hall on campus, named for my relative.
But this speaks for itself.
